young parents vanish while having a night out, and a year later a mystery novelist moves to their small town and begins poking around。 this was enjoyable and tense and intriguing but i did feel like the plot unwound in a really obvious way, it just took a while to do so - i think i was only a quarter through the book when i realized where the missing couple had gone and why, which was kind of a bummer。 there was a fun little twist in the epilogue but it didn't affect anything, so。。 i'm torn。 i h young parents vanish while having a night out, and a year later a mystery novelist moves to their small town and begins poking around。 this was enjoyable and tense and intriguing but i did feel like the plot unwound in a really obvious way, it just took a while to do so - i think i was only a quarter through the book when i realized where the missing couple had gone and why, which was kind of a bummer。 there was a fun little twist in the epilogue but it didn't affect anything, so。。 i'm torn。 i had a good time with the book despite it being so predictable, but it was so VERY predictable。 3/5?? 。。。more

4。5I absolutely loved this book, it is such a 'Lisa Jewell' thriller。 It had everything I expected it to have plus so much more。 The story is told from multiple narratives across two time periods (typical of Jewell) and is engaging, thought-provoking and thrilling。 I loved that I could never guess what was going to happen。 The themes draw parallels to everyday life and the novel talks of issues of control, controversy, love and betrayal。 This is my second favourite Lisa Jewell novel after 'The F 4。5I absolutely loved this book, it is such a 'Lisa Jewell' thriller。 It had everything I expected it to have plus so much more。 The story is told from multiple narratives across two time periods (typical of Jewell) and is engaging, thought-provoking and thrilling。 I loved that I could never guess what was going to happen。 The themes draw parallels to everyday life and the novel talks of issues of control, controversy, love and betrayal。 This is my second favourite Lisa Jewell novel after 'The Family Upstairs'。 。。。more

Lisa Jewell is known as one of the greats in this genre, and she doesn't disappoint with her latest effort, The Night She Disappeared。 As mentioned in most of the other reviews, this novel weaves together multiple points of view and timelines, all filled with intriguing and dynamic characters。 I think what stood out to me the most was how much I liked the women who populate the story-- so often with thrillers, I find myself not connecting particularly to (m)any of the characters, even including Lisa Jewell is known as one of the greats in this genre, and she doesn't disappoint with her latest effort, The Night She Disappeared。 As mentioned in most of the other reviews, this novel weaves together multiple points of view and timelines, all filled with intriguing and dynamic characters。 I think what stood out to me the most was how much I liked the women who populate the story-- so often with thrillers, I find myself not connecting particularly to (m)any of the characters, even including the protagonist(s)。 However, I found myself truly caring about Sophie and Kim, hoping Tallulah was safe, and even riveted by Scarlett。 While it's slower paced than I would've liked and it does feel familiar/overdone, it is a well written and entertaining read。 。。。more

Another thing that Lisa Jewell has always done well is to keep up with changes in trends and changes in technology。 So many authors shy away from this but when you read a novel from this author you can be sure that popular trends and technology will features。 This is a great because when you go back and read them years later, there is a sense of nostalgia fro the time the book was set。 I loved the fact that Instagram and travel vlogging features so widely in this book。 I felt like I could relate Another thing that Lisa Jewell has always done well is to keep up with changes in trends and changes in technology。 So many authors shy away from this but when you read a novel from this author you can be sure that popular trends and technology will features。 This is a great because when you go back and read them years later, there is a sense of nostalgia fro the time the book was set。 I loved the fact that Instagram and travel vlogging features so widely in this book。 I felt like I could relate to the characters in the book more because of that。As always with a Lisa Jewell novel, we get fed details slowly but surely throughout the book。 There are multiple time lines through a variety of narratives but all come down to one thing, the night she disappeared。 I just loved the fact that we get details from one perspective and then we switch to another perspective meaning that we have to wait until we're back with that character/timeline before we can see the impact of what has just happened。Tallulah and Kim are interesting characters。 Even though Kim plays such a vital role in the book, she is Tallulah's Mum after all, we don't get told a lot of details about her。 We learn of her as a mum and a grandma and we know that she has had this awful thing happen to her but that is about it when it comes to details about her。 We are fed a lot more information about Tallulah but as usual this information is revealed slowly but surely。 I love the fact that we have queer representation in this novel and I liked the part that views on peopler's sexuality plays an important part of the plot in this case。I listened to this book on audiobook and the narrator did a great job。 You do have to be paying close attention when listening, however, to make sure that you haven't missed a change in timeline or narrative。 I would say that if you can read this book as an ebook or a physical book, that would be the better choice。 I adored the fact that this book was structured into multiple parts and there are reveals towards the end of each part meaning you're compelled to keep reading and find out what the next part has in store。 。。。more

The timelines flow between around october of 2016, june of 2017, august and september of 2018- with a wee bit between every now and then。 While at first confusing, it only took a few chapters for me to catch up。 The premise is essentially- how far does a mothers love really go? Would it transcend time to make sure your babies (adult or young) are safe? Also, what would be the difference between love and 。。。 obsession? In this delicious thriller of a book, we meet a series of characters。 The main two- missing。 The other "Main" characters- trying to solve a mystery。 The other - being stuck in the middle, being the mother of one of the missing characters。 The mother, believing in every fiber of her body that her daughter would not just run off- but, will anyone listen when an entire little area believes otherwise? Until one day, the new occupants of a mysterious, beautiful home sees a note- "dig here"。 This book was fast paced, suspenseful, heartbreaking at times and believable throughout。 There were times when I assumed I could figure out the plot, and be proven wrong with each part of the story。 For fans of any thriller, I'd definitely recommend "The Night She Disappeared"。 。。。more
